Kildare Camogie held its annual presentation night for 2013 in the Westgrove Hotel in Clane last week where a packed attendance joined to celebrate and recognise the achievement of the county teams, clubs, individuals players and club volunteers during what must have been Kildare Camogie’s most successful year.
Within the GAA community counties the ‘’ holy grail’’ of all counties is to win Provincial or All Ireland honours and so Kildare must be the envy of many counties having achieved that in spades this year.
From being in a bad place five years ago at inter county level Kildare have made giant strides, culminating in this years double, double of All Ireland and Leinster honours at both Premier Junior and minor levels.
Roll of Honour:
Libery Insurance All Ireland Premier Junior winners; Leinster Junior Championship; All Ireland Minor C winners; Leinster Minor C Winners 2013.
Senior Player of the Year: Susie O’Carroll (Celbridge); Young Player of the Year: Gillian Keegan (Celbridge); Minor Players of the Year: Maebh Walsh (Maynooth): Shauna Moran (Athy).
Overall winner of the Joan O’Flynn Volunteer of the Year Award went to Brendan Kenny of Naas whose work for both his club and county at underage has been both outstanding unassuming.
As he says ‘Sure all I do is smoke a cigar and ring other people’. But that is what makes things happen.
