Kildare hurlers recorded a fine win over Carlow in Round 2 of the Leinster U20 Tier 2 , Group 1, at Cullen Park, Carlow this afternoon. In the end The Lilies had eight points to spare.
It was the visitors, playing with the aid of the strong breeze, who opened brightest with two frees from Alex Bell and a point from play from Tom Browne.
However Carlow responded with goal from Shane Kelly but The Lilies responsed immediately with Tom Power finding the Carlow new.
Carlow came more into it but Kildare got the last two points before the break to leave Kildare leading 1-8 to 1-3.
Carlow reduced the lead with three quick points on the resumption, Charlie Carroll settled The Lilies with a fine point and while Carlow responded with a free, poionts from Oran Byrne and Tom Browne and a brilliant goal from Evan O' Brian in the 43 minute was the score the visitors were hoping for and uiltimately set them on the path to victory.
That goal knocked the stuffing out of the Carlow side and it was Kildare who won, somewhat comfortably in the end, on a final score line of Kildare 2-15 Carlow 1-10.
Kildare now play Kerry in the final game of the group with a win for either putting them through to a preliminary quarter-final.
