The projects, in Maynooth, Naas and Celbridge are funded by the new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund

Fianna Fáil Minister and Kildare North TD James Lawless has welcomed €9 million in funding for four projects across Maynooth, Naas and Celbridge under the new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund.

The Kildare funding is part of a €409 million national investment announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Browne TD, supporting almost 120 projects across every local authority in the State.

The Kildare projects are:

  • €4.4 million – Harbour Field, Maynooth
  • €4.3 million – Murtagh’s Corner, Naas
  • €150,000 – Donaghcomper Masterplan, Celbridge
  • €150,000 – Parochial House and Lands design work, Celbridge

Minister Lawless said: “This is a really significant €9 million investment in Kildare and very positive news for Maynooth, Naas and Celbridge.

“I’m particularly delighted to see €4.4 million for Harbour Field in Maynooth and €4.3 million for Murtagh’s Corner in Naas. These are substantial investments in two of our growing towns. There is also important funding for Celbridge, with €150,000 for the Donaghcomper Masterplan and a further €150,000 for design work for the Parochial House and Lands. This will allow these projects to progress and help position them for further capital investment.”

“Our towns have grown enormously and we need investment in public spaces, amenities and town centres to keep pace with that growth. This funding is about investing in the future of our communities and making our towns better places to live, work and spend time.

“The focus now must be on getting these projects progressed and delivering this investment on the ground. The new Towns and Cities Regeneration Investment Fund replaces the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund and will continue to support urban regeneration and sustainable communities. Nationally, €409 million will be available where local authorities meet the targets set out in their applications. The programme prioritises projects including the redevelopment of vacant or underused sites, public realm improvements and community and civic infrastructure.

Minister Lawless added: “Almost 120 projects are being supported nationwide, but today’s announcement delivers a particularly strong result for Kildare. I look forward to seeing Kildare County Council progress these four projects as quickly as possible.”
