ESB investigating repeated power outages in this Kildare region

Residents of Donadea, Co Kildare have reported the outages
Minister James Lawless TD has confirmed that ESB Networks is investigating the cause of repeated electricity outages affecting residents in Donadea, Co Kildare.
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and TD for Kildare North, James Lawless, has been contacted by residents in Donadea regarding a series of electricity outages that have affected the area in recent weeks.
The Minister said the frequency of the outages had caused significant frustration in the community, and confirmed that his office had raised the matter directly with ESB Networks.
“Losing power once is an inconvenience. Losing it repeatedly over a short period is not acceptable, and I completely understand the frustration of residents who have been in contact with me,” Minister Lawless said.
“I have been engaged directly with the ESB to establish what is causing these outages and what can be done about it.”
ESB Networks has confirmed that its crews are continuing to investigate the underlying cause of the outages.
The company has identified vegetation growth into the network and an increased risk of bird strikes on overhead lines during the harvesting period as contributing factors.
In relation to the two recent outages, ESB Networks has confirmed a pole-mounted transformer failure on Wednesday 15th July and overhead line failures at two separate locations on Sunday July 19.
The company has advised that these faults have since been repaired.
Customers who continue to be affected by outages can contact ESB networks directly on 1800 372 999, or report outages at www.powercheck.ie
Minister Lawless thanked residents who had raised the issue with his office, as well as the ESB Networks crews working to restore supply, and said he would continue to monitor the situation and share updates as they become available.
