An online fundraiser has been launched for one Kildare county councillor's General Election (GE) 2024 campaign.

Social Democrats Cllr Chris Pender, who is based in Newbridge, announced that he was running in the GE for Kildare South last Thursday (October 10 last).

The fundraiser is titled 'Let's Get Chris Into The Dáil' and is currently live on iDonate.ie.

Explaining his intentions in the fundraiser's description, Cllr Pendr, who also set up the fundraiser, explained: "Ireland is at a pivotal moment.

"The challenges we face — from housing to healthcare to infrastructure — require real political change, and that change is within our grasp.

"I believe in a future that is fairer, more accountable, and built on integrity."

He continued: "I'm running to deliver on the social obligations we owe to each other: affordable housing, accessible healthcare, reliable public transport, and sustainable infrastructure.

"I am standing for those who can't; for the families priced out of housing, for those waiting for mental health services, and for the communities struggling to make their voices heard. And now, I'm turning to you for support."

"It's not naive to believe we can solve the housing crisis, or to want better public transport in our towns and cities, or to see Ireland foster its own thriving businesses."

'I CAN'T DO IT ALONE'

"We can have a public sector that works for the people, and we can build a society where everyone gets the opportunity to thrive.

"There is a better way to govern — and I'm committed to making it a reality.

"But I can t do it alone: to run a viable campaign, I'll need your help — both financially and through your time and support.

"My target of €10,000 is only a fraction of what the big party candidates will spend, but with your support, every euro will make a difference: €500 can fund a billboard or a newspaper ad; €300 will cover the costs of recording a professional campaign video; €100 will help us print 2,000 leaflets; Even €10 will help fund election posters.

"I'm a first-time candidate in what will be a competitive election, and every donation, no matter how small, helps me get one step closer to representing Kildare South in the Dail."

"Thank you so much for your support," Cllr Pender concluded.

The fundraiser can be accessed here.

In addition, Cllr Pender revealed that he will be hosting a campaign launch event in Newbridge tomorrow (Tuesday, October 15, 2024).

The event will take place in Ryston Sports and Social Club and will commence at 8.30pm.

Social Democrats TD Gary Gannon has been announced as a guest speaker.
