Helena Davis PRO reports “Another convincing win for the Grange under 16 on March 30 when they came up against an obviously frustrated Ballykelly side. These two teams have met many times on the field before and unlike other clashes Grange showed the Ballykelly lads what their made of with a powerful display of team work using simple but effective hand passes. Codey Davis proved his capability in the back line along with Ryan Kelly they managed to stave off Ballykellys efforts on the posts for the first 20 minutes of the game. Daniel Mackey demonstrated the importance of using his head and rather then kick first and think later he thought through his moves and hit his target every time.
It was obvious in the second half that the visiting side gave into their frustration and this was exasperated with Jason Kirwan showing some of his dance moves on the pitch which the Ballykelly lads did not appreciate ending with a red card for the visitors. Through the league this year the Grange team really look like they are enjoying there time on the pitch and this is coming through in how the play with the semi finals to look forward to hopefully thy can continue to play this well. Full time score Grange 3:8 Ballykelly 1:3 Best of luck lads.
This was another unfortunate loss for the Grange under 14 team on Saturday April 4 as they really put their hearts into the match but unfortunately Castlemitchel secured two goals early in the game and this set the Grange lads on the back footing but the lads dug in and worked never letting up. With a steady stream of points in the first half from Grange it was never going to be an easy game to call and although on the score board at half time Castlemitchel led, you got the sense that Grange had a lot more to offer. Dean Stynes offered support for the team right through the game securing a platform for point scoring opportunities and with Patrick Campbell putting everything into the match and proving time and again that he wasn’t afraid of committing to the play on another day the score line would and should have been a lot different.
The Grange team came back strong in the second half with Lee Dooley demonstrating skill levels that far supersede his age he has an ability to know where to send the ball for maximum effect that you would love to see in the senior side. With Castlemitchel securing another 3 goals in the second half it proved too much of a stretch for this young Grange side but I have no doubt that with the talent that is present on this team that they will come back stronger then ever and will defiantly be a team to watch in the future. The score line in this case is not a true reflection on this team’s ability and they proved this time and again securing the ball and scoring. The team on a whole demonstrated the true sense of sportsmanship not rising to the bating of the opposition on a number of occasions through out the game and gave a performance that the club as a whole should be proud of. Full time score Grange 1:16 Castlemitchel 6:6
