Moone Celtic U/14

On Monday evening 14th May at 7.30pm Moone Celtics U/14 Premier team will play Templeogue United in Ballyowen Park, Lucan. What makes this fixture remarkable is that they are competing for a place in the SFAI All Ireland Cup Final. And whatever about reigning champions Templeogue United competing at this stage once again, the small townsland of Moone have every reason to be especially proud of their U/14 players. By getting to this stage Moone created history not alone for their club but also for the Kildare & District Underage League in which they compete.

Moone have battled their way through to the last four of the competition in phenomenal fashion. Along the way Moone have managed to bring about upsets by knocking out teams, each with much larger selection pools of players; namely fellow Kildare side Newbridge Town, Wicklow sides Arklow Town and Enniskerry; Kells Blackwater from Meath, Gorey Rangers from Wexford and Carrigaline United from Cork.

In the U/14 cup open to entrants from the whole of the country Moone find themselves standing in the final four of 336 original entrants. With Moone underage structure only being in place for seven seasons this achievement is all the more remarkable.

Clearly this remarkable achievement owes much to the devotion, coaching and management skills of their mentors Niall Kearins, Christy Doran and Gerry Jackson. Previous coaches Sean Davis and Ger Keenan also deserve special mention for moulding this side towards this achievement. Another person deserving of great credit in this achievement is Aidan Byrne. Under his leadership as Chairman the club has gone from strength to strength with facilities improving to match the great aspirations of the players and coaches.

All support in this semi-final would be greatly appreciated as due to the luck of the draw Moone find themselves without home advantage for the fifth round of the seven to date. No doubt this team will produce another performance to be very proud of.

Squad: Mark Jackson, Mark McGinley, Dylan Kennedy, Mark Glynn, David Lambe, Mikey O’ Brien, Conor O’ Sullivan, Paul Huntington, Josh Miller, Luke Kerins, Stephen Coyne, Evan Stephenson, Oran Bergin, Daniel Kelly, Eric Doran, Mark Liederith, Mark Lawler & Kieran Farrell’.
