Blessington GAA Club held their very latest Lotto Draw on Tuesday April 24 with another brand new jackpot which was standing at €6,000. Once again the top prize was not won and four only lucky punters managed to match even three numbers. They each received €75. The winning numbers drawn on the night were 9, 11, 13 and 23. Tickets priced at only €2 are already on sale at the usual local outlets or from a committee member for the club’s next Lotto Draw which will have another new jackpot which will be standing at€6,200. The club urge members and supporters to purchase tickets and also ask them to encourage friends and relatives to do the same. The recent sales have been excellent and the club really appreciate it. This is the club’s main fundraiser during the year and a lot of time and effort is put into making it a success. Remember if you get the numbers right on the night you will be winning the jackpot which no doubt would come in very handy at this time of the year.
Blessington Tidy Towns
Blessington has a long tradition of involvement in the National Tidy Towns competition and has always been well represented. In recent times interest in the towns appearance and in the competition has been renewed with the formation of a new group comprising of Anita Moroney, Brian Kane, Jason Mulhall, John Brennan, Mick Duggan, Noreen Keegan Kavanagh and many other volunteers. It is still early days for the group but they have been beavering away in the background for the last two months getting things off the ground. In a small period of time the group have successfully organized clean ups of notorious litter spots in the town like Dempseys Lane, Mass Lane and all of the approach roads to the town. These areas have been deemed litter free for the time being. Regular litter rotas are now in place on Sunday mornings. According to group member Jason Mulhall “Much of the early success to date has been due to the recruitment of two CE Scheme participants, John Keogh and Christy Reid who have been truly brilliant in their dedication and attitude to detail to every activity they undertake. Eighty bags of litter have been collected alone to date”. Jason also pointed out that “the guidance and advice provided from members of the last active group in 2008 have helped us to focus on areas that required the most attention immediately”. SuperValu, and Dan Kenny in particular has been very generous with their time and sponsorship. Supervalu will continue to play an important role in the ongoing success of Blessington Tidy Towns group. Hennessys Hardware has also been to the fore in helping the group get off the ground initially. The tidy towns group hope to bring a number of other local businesses and sponsors on board in the coming weeks. One of the key initiatives planned this year is a local tidy estates competition and the group will be in contact with every residents association in the area in the near future. The group is actively looking for many more members of the local community to get onboard and help restore Blessingtons reputation as an idyllic gateway to West Wicklow. So if you can spare a couple of hours some evening or over a weekend once in a while, no matter how big or small your contribution, the message is that every pair of hands helps and all efforts will help make the local community a better place for all. In order to avoid local community events clashing why not avail of the free Web Diary on the Blessington Parish Website to promote your event. Log onto www.blessington.info and complete the Event Classification Form. The date and details will then be published on the Web Diary. This will avoid any local events clashing. Recently three local groups all had Golf Classics on the same day which meant they all suffered a loss of revenue.
