Fianna Fáil Frank English Cumann
The May monthly meeting of the Fianna Fáil Frank English Cumann Athy, was informed that the Cumann’s sub-committee had organised a public meeting for to set up a focus group to develop the People’s Park and approve amenities for both young and old.
In addition to this, Cllr. Dalton advised the meeting that following on from a motion that he had put down at council, Athy Town Council had made an application for a sports fund grant to improve the playground facilities.
On the Southern Distributor Road, Cllr. Dalton said that the announcement last week on progress was to be welcomed but that funding was dependent on a stimulus package from Brussels.
In the forthcoming referendum, the Church Of Ireland Hall was to be used as a polling station for the referendum instead of the new Scoil Phádraig, which was too far out of town for people to get to. It was thanks to Cllr. Dalton’s representations that the new C of I Hall was to be used.
The Fiscal Treaty referendum dominated matters of national interest and Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl was able to inform and advise the meeting and answer questions on same. There was also much discussion on the obscene salaries being paid to the top banking officials and were compared them to other decision makers in the country and it could be clearly argued that all of these decision makers, public and private, because of these high salaries, are too far removed from the ordinary people.
The recent decision by Athy Town Council to remove parking permits from Fire Brigade Personnel was raised.
The Cumann passed a vote of sympathy on the death of Sr. Peig Rice.
