A cast for Sweeney Todd
Clane’s next musical which will be staged in the Abbey from October 30 to November 4 is Sweeney Todd. The production team of Dave McGauran (Musical Director), Art McGauran (Director) and Deirdre Browne (choreographer) has commenced work on this production. The auditions for Sweeney Todd will be held on Sunday July 1. Dave McGauran will hold a music workshop in preparation for the auditions on Saturday June 23 and a music rehearsal on Wednesday June 27. At the workshop on Saturday 23rd all the audition pieces will be covered by role and a schedule will be organised for the day. On Wednesday 27th Dave McGauran will run through all the music again as a final preparation for the auditions.

A strong chorus is also required for Sweeney Todd and people of all ages and voices will be required for Sweeney Todd. Rehearsals will start in late August and further details will be available nearer the time.
Bingo continues on Tuesday nights in the club at 8.30pm. The Jackpot is now over €1,550 and there will also be many Cash Prizes each week. All Welcome! Scrap Metal Week will continue this Saturday 16th from 12-3pm. All items can be dropped in O’Connell’s Yard, Millicent Road, Clane. Many thanks to all for donations so far and also thank you must go to the organisers Jerry O’Sullivan, Alan Donovan, John Ball, Kieran O’Flaherty, Marty Corbett and all those that helped last week.
The draw for the 2nd round of the football championship was made and this sees us meeting Moorefield. The game will be played once the inter-county season has finished for Kildare. Best of luck to the Senior Hurlers who play Naas on the weekend of June 30. A date and venue is yet to be decided.
The Senior Footballers played Celbridge last Saturday night and lost by 10 points. Missing a few lads, the boys gave it their all. Next match was at home to Athy. These bunch of lads have really played out of their skins this year and are now pushing for a place in the top 4 of the highest league.
The u14 leagues are now in full flow and while results have been mixed for the A team, our B team are continuing to make great strides and are in the shake up for a place in the semi-finals – well done lads! The U16 football league is now finished and they are now looking forward to the championship after the exams.
The Minor footballers lost out on a league final place and are now preparing for their championship which starts after the exams. The championship draws for both the Minor & U16 championship will take place over the next week or so. The u14 hurlers commenced their league campaign on Friday with a home game against an Ardclough/Confey combination. Best of luck in the competition lads.
The u16 hurlers finished off their league campaign in great style beating Eire Og in the final after extra time by a few points. Well done to the lads and trainers Bernard & Tony. Please see report in booklet. Underage football & hurling training has now resumed. The Tiny Tots football is on Saturday mornings in the club at 10.30am with the rest of the smaller underage football groups are up in the Boys School on Friday nights @ 6.45pm. The underage hurlers are up in the club at the usual time on Wednesday nights.
Huge congratulations must be extended to the Boys school and their teachers as they completed a clean sweep of county titles over the last week. The lads won the u10 div1, u13 A & B titles. This is a massive achievement and it has not been done by any school in a long time.

The Wee Amigo’s, the brilliant new country band will be appearing in Poulaphouca House on Friday 22nd June. Show begins at 7.30pm and tickets at the door are €5. A night not to be missed.

County Dog Wardens will be conducting door to door Dog Licence checks in the Clane area for June and July. Wardens use a computer data base to locate unlicensed dogs. On the spot fines can be issued to owners or people in charge of unlicensed dogs. They will also be doing checks regarding dog control issues. Owners of Restricted Breeds need to be aware of the extra laws regarding their dogs which is dictated by Control of Dogs act and are also subject to fines for breaches of the legislation. License are available from any Post Office and cost €20.
