On Sunday May 13, 40 pupils from Ms Kearney’s and Ms Johnston’s 2nd Class (Crookstown National School) received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. The Celebrant was Rev. Fr. Frank McEvoy PP and School Principal Ms Nuala Costello welcomed the packed congregation. The ceremony was broadcast in the Parish radio and the Folk Group supplied the music. The Readings, Prayers of the Faithful, and the Psalm and the preparation of the Altar was all done by the First communicants. Parent Anne Downey read the Communion Reflection and then Fr. McEvoy invited the children to come to the Altar in front of the Tabernacle where he presented them with Communion Cards. The First Communicants then sang “This is the Day” before processioning from the Altar. Thanks was expressed to Fr. McEvoy, teachers Edel Kearney and Tara Johnston, Folk Group, Altar Servers, The Parents Council for arranging refreshments for the parents and children after their Communion, the committee for the “do this is memory of me” for their continued work throughout the year with Masses, and to all those who helped prepare the Church and plan the liturgy before the final Blessing.

Crookstown National School recently received their 5th Green Flag on the theme of biodiversity. Green Schools Fionnan Morrin, Danny O’Grady, Kim Kerins and Donal attended the Awards Ceremony in Dublin and received the Green Flag on behalf of the whole committee and school. The committee worked all year in preparing for the flag and their hard work paid off.
Elev8 Disney competition
Third Class took part in this competition and although their Disney Cake didn’t win any prizes the class thoroughly enjoyed taking part and creating their class cake, with thanks to parent Sinead Ryan who organised the whole event and Carmel who helped as well.
Mini sevens camogie
The girls took part in this competition and did well. They won two matches which was not enough to qualify for the final stages. Well done to the panel of players - Molly Coyne, Ciara McManamon, Sarah Keatley, Shauna Murphy-McKenna, Cira Woods, Ellie Bambrick, Sarah Lawler, Alannah Ryan, and Aisling Bolton Dowling.
Saoirse Fletcher, Doireann Halpin from 3rd class along with helpers Niah Ryan and Osia O’Mahoney set up a little fundraising venture and raised €255 for their chosen charities Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin and Trocaire. Well done to the budding entrepreneurs.
The late George Treacy
The death occurred of George Treacy late of Battlemount, Narraghmore on Monday May 28. He reposed at his son Donal’s residence with removal on Wednesday to the Church of the Holy Saviour, Narraghmore for Funeral Service at 2.30pm.
We wish to extend sincere sympathy to George’s wife Margaret, sons Donald and Robin, daughters Avril, Carol and Suzanne, sisters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchild, nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends.
All roads lead to St. Laurence’s GFC, Oldgrange for the annual field day on Sunday next June 10th at 2pm. Entry and car parking is free. This is always a wonderful family fun day out with all the usual stalls, and lots of new ones too. Lots of fun too for the children to enjoy. See you all there.

Newtown rovers seniors
The First team progressed to the next round of the Lumsden Cup after a Johnny O’Connell goal gave them a 1 - 0 victory at home to Maynooth Town. The second teams poor run came to an end last Thursday night when they travelled to Newbridge side Walshestown and defeated them 2 - 0 with both goals coming from Patrick Mulhall. With the European Championship due to start there will be no League games played on the weekend of June 9 or 16.
Newtown Rovers of Booleigh Underage continue training each Saturday from 2.30 to 4pm at Booleigh cross, there is great numbers attending and it is hoped to enter teams into the K.D.U.L. in September. Managers are currently been sought to take over these team so if you want interested in getting involved as a Manager or Coach or just simply wish to help out Contact Club Secretary Stacey Moss on 087 6420714 for more details.
There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot of €8,500 and the numbers drawn were 11/12/30. The €20 winners were David English, B. Byrne, Kathy Mackey, Sadie Fleming and Kelly Alkin. Next Lotto Jackpot is €8,600 and the venue is O’Connor’s Lounge.
Mill Celtic training

Preparations are well under way for the 3rd Leinster Loop charity cycle which will take place on Sunday August 19 at St Laurence’s Community Complex. Once again the cyclists will be led out by the legendary Stephen Roche. Again all funds raised will be for the National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI) and St Laurence’s Community Complex. We need all the volunteers and cyclists we can get!
St. Laurence’s Golf Society’s next outing is on Saturday June 23 to Mount Wolseley Golf Club.
The U/14 Footballers were away on Wednesday May 23 to Kilcock, Feile Champions, in Div 1 of the League. This was an extremely spirited performance from a St Laurence’s team. Kilcock ran out winners on a scoreline of 6-10 to 3-09.
St Laurence’s U/12 Red team had their last game on Thursday May 31 away to Rheban. A very close game kept everyone on their toes! This was the last game in this league for the Red team Well done to Adam G, Aaron, Felix, Nicky, Oran, Mikey, Padraig, Adam M, Niall, Michael, Oisin, Darragh, Peter, Tom and Sean, and their coaches for all their hard work.

Congratulations to St. Laurence’s/Athy Camogie girls who won the U/16 Division 2 League Cup beating Clane 4-4 to 0-0 in the final in Eire Og on Sunday May 13.
There were good displays all round especially Erica Dempsey, Laura Bowden, Cheyanne Holmes and Dervla Byrne. Goalie Rosin Howe and full back Jenny Downey who had come from her twin brothers Communion had little do but held solid throughout.
U.16 cup final
This was an absorbing Cup Final played at Mill Lane, Ballytore on Saturday May 25. Seven days earlier these two teams met in the Shield Final, with Mill winning 4 - 3. Normal time ended 2-2 and extra time also ended on level terms. Then the dreaded penalties - Hero in the shoot out was goalie Tom McGuirk who pulled off two stunning saves. Andrew Horan completed the Double. Well done to the team and management and everyone involved.
St Laurence’s are in Group C with Kerry, Tullamore and the host club Laois and Sarsfields.

Senior C team won their ninth league game against Ellistown. The seniors were beaten by Monastrevin. The seniors will face Round Towers in the next round of the Championship.
Underage training takes place in Oldgrange on a Wednesday night between 7pm-8pm and on Saturday mornings between 11am-12pm

St Laurence’s GAA Centre hosts a badminton club. Practice Sessions are held at the following times - Adults - Tuesday 8-10pm, and Friday 8-10pm. The Junior Club is on Saturday from 10 - 12pm. New members are always welcome, just turn up on any of the times noted above. We try cater for all players, either social or competitive as there are 4 courts available for playing. St Laurence’s are the current Leinster Champions at grade 5 level.
The Walking group meet monday to friday at 7pm in Ballitore Village. If you would like to get out for a walk and a chat for one hour please come along any night, bring flash light, and jacket. There is no charge and all are welcome.
