A man has admitted producing an iron bar at a pub in Portarlington.
Peter Cassidy (45) of 37 St Josephs Terrace, Portarlington, was accused of producing an iron bar and assault causing harm at the Railway Bar in Portarlington on April 4, 2026.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was pleading guilty to producing the bar. However, she said there was no medical report in relation to injuries arising from the incident and she wished to make a submission to the DPP in relation to whether the assault charge should be simple assault or assault causing harm.
Judge Andrew Gubbins said he would direct a victim impact statement in the case.
“We will wait till we have DPP directions and a victim impact statement if the victim wants to give one,” he said.
He remanded the defendant on bail and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on January 25.
