Kildare woman allegedly stabbed man with peeling knife, court hears

It’s alleged the man suffered a five centimetre deep wound
A woman appeared before Portlaoise District Court accused of inflicting a five centimetre deep stab wound on a man.
Christine Moore (40) of 1374 St Evins Park, Monasterevin, Co Kildare is accused of assault causing harm to a man at Ardevan Grove, Monastervin and production of an article being a peeling knife on August 12, 2025.
Solicitor Victoria Kingston said the woman was subject to legal aid and she wasn’t therefore in a position to represent her due to the withdrawal of services.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the DPP had directed that the case was summary, meaning it could be heard in the district court.
Judge Andrew Cody noted “one stab wound to the lower abdomen region, a five centimetre deep stab wound.”
“A five centimetre stab wound and the DPP says it is a minor offence?” queried Judge Cody.
Sgt Kirby said “it is alleged that the injured party allegedly fell into the knife that was in Ms Moore’s hand.”
On inspecting the evidence, Judge Cody said he would accept jurisdiction. He adjourned the case to Portlaoise District Court on September 14 for either a plea or a date for hearing.
