The 25th Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival which runs from July 21 to 27 2012 was offically launched on recently at Newbridge Credit Union.
This year The Gerard Manley Hopkins Society astonishingly celebrates its 25th birthday, or silver Jubilee.
The Annual International Festival has continued to grow and gain in international stature and scholarly reputation - a fact recognised with an invitation to the organisers by President Michael D Higgins to Aras an Uachtaráin in July.
“Our website now attracts some 80,000 hits worldwide and something of the international standing of our Festival can be gauged from the fact that already we will host participants from no fewer than 20 countries, while several Ambassadors will attend,” said Festival founder and local poet Des Egan.
Now based in Newbridge College, having moved a couple of years ago from its original home in Monasterevin, the line-up for this year’s festival includes a concert by Frankie Gavin, accompanied by Michelle Lally (of De Danann fame) and a concert with Swedish pianist Hans Palsson.
