The Youth Cafe held their A.G.M. on Tuesday February 26th in the Community Centre and he following officers were elected - Chairperson Greg Hennessy, Vice Chairperson Saidhbh Hartford, Secretary Maureen Nolan, Secretary Maureen Nolan, Treasurer Peter Behan, Assistant Treasurer Margaret Hedigan, and PRO James O’Gorman.
James reports “Treasurer report for 2013 - We still have €5000 held for us towards the move to new community centre, this will be used to fit kitchen area, storage and decorate. There is a little over €1000 in post office account. A weekly cash sheet has been introduced with float recorded before we open and money counted and signed for by a leader at the end of late session. The 50c cover charge money is to be kept separate and recorded also so we can see if the shop is making a profit for us.
All volunteers now need both Garda vetting and KYS child protection training in order to be a leader in youth café. This leaves us very short and we won’t be able to open every week until this is in place. Details of KYS training to follow as soon as we hear back from Kieran. It was suggested some of us do a “train the trainer” course so we can train our own volunteers as we need to.
The AGM will take place to-night tuesday March 19 at 8pm in the Community Centre. Everyone welcome.
LOCAL HISTORY GROUP
The next meeting is on Tuesday 26th of March and will look at Saint Patrick - The Man behind the Myth and we hope to see you and many more new faces on the night.
STAGE PERFORMING ARTS SUMMER CAMP
Evelyn Purcell tells me that the Summer Stage performing arts summer camp returns to Scoil Diarmada, Castledermot from August 12th-16th this year! Running from 10am-3pm daily, the camp involves singing, dancing, drama and games, with a small performance on Friday for parents. Participants also receive a free DVD of the performance to enjoy afterwards! The cost is €80, with a family discount available. Now in its fourth year, Summer Stage promises to provide a great week of pop songs, numbers from musicals and general fun! SONGS WE LEARNT IN SCHOOL
The Parish Choir is asking the people of Castledermot to remember songs they learned in school from “Oro se do beith abhaile” to more modern songs. We hope to be able to have a few “musical evenings” based on these, so there will be a box at the back of the Church for the names of the songs you remember. We will try to tract them down - and do them justice. You can also give the names of the songs to any member of the Choir.
ITS YOUR TIME TO SHINE
The Credit Union Chapter 7 Youth Officers are delighted to announce CU FACTOR Talent Competition. It is open to all ages - no restrictions, Any act from singing to juggling with great prizes. There will be heats in Athy, Edenderry, Naas and Mountmellick in April and the Finals in The Moat Theatre, Naas in May. Winners at the whist in the Community Centre on Sunday March 3rd were - Kit Farrell, N. O’Brien, M. Corcoran, F. Hutton, A. Smyth. Whist continues each Sunday evening at 8.30pm in the Community Centre and welcome all Card players.
Castledermot Tidy Towns extend an invitation to all residents to their next meeting on Monday March 25th at 8.30pm in the Community Centre. They would welcome some extra support.
BIGSTONE NATIONAL SCHOOL
Bigstone National School is now taking enrolment for the term starting in September 2013. Children must be 4 years of age by September 2013. Contact the school for an enrolment form on 059 9161171 or call in person and pick one up.
A Pig Race Festival will be held on the Square Castledermot on Bank Holiday Sunday May 5th in aid of St. Luke’s Cancer Hospital, Dublin in conjunction with Castledermot GAA. First Race is due to commence at 2.30pm. Sponsorship Space on race program is available from any GAA Committee member. Race day pigs sponsorship is also available. Further information will follow on additional activities on the day.
TIR NA NOG PARENT AND TODDLER GROUP
Tir na nÓg parent and toddler group is now open on Mondays due to popular demand. You can come along on Mondays and Wednesdays each week from 9.30am to 12noon. All pre-school children and their parents, grandparents or minders are welcome to come. The group meet in Scoil Diarmuid. The cost is €2 per family.
