Message from Fr. Fitzpatrick Parish Priest of Carbury
This week we bring you a message from Fr. John Fitzpatrick, Parish Priest of Carbury.
The message follows the theft of a Brass Plate from the Tabernacle from Holy Trinity Church, Derrinturn on Sunday, 9th March between the hours of 3pm and 5.30pm. Speaking on KFM Radio last week, Fr. John Fitzpatrick P.P. made an appeal to the people who removed the Brass Plate to return it to the Church. “The vandalisation of the tabernacle in Derrinturn Church, which was also a sacrilege (a mortal sin), damaging something sacred to God, came as a shock to the people of the Parish. It is first of all an offence against God. As Clem Ryan asked on K.F.M. “Is anything sacred anymore?” Perhaps the perpetrator is someone to be pitied.
The words of Jesus on the Cross came to mind, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” I received a text that said the following “What was stolen is 200 years old but what was in the Tabernacle is 2013 years old, i.e. the real presence of Jesus, and Thank God that was not touched.” Jesus said “Behold I am with you always” and he will be with us as we pick up the pieces, quite literally, and move on.
Our newly renovated Church will recover and be repaired because the faith and generosity of our people is never in doubt. Thank God.”
