ALMOST three dozen refugees from Africa are to be settled in County Kildare, writes Paul O’Meara. It’s thought at least some, if not all of the people, who are from Eritrea and Sudan, will be accommodated in Naas. A Kildare County Council spokeswoman said it was not immediately clear where the refugees would live. A total of 24 people from Sudan arrived in Kildare yesterday (Monday) and a further 10 from Eritrea are due to arrive next Monday.
Kildare County Council is coordinating the provision of education, social welfare and accommodation as well as providing assistance with familiarisation. All of the people are refugees and both Sudan and Eritrea are among the poorest nations in the world.
