SOUTH KILDARE ACTIVE RETIRED ASSOCIATION
PRO for the South Kildare Active Retired Association writes “Go For Life Training for the South Kildare area has been changed to Wednesday evening in Moone Hall. Assemble at 6.45pm for start promptly at 7.00 o’clock. The games are aimed at providing light exercise for those over 50. You could describe them as variations of Bowls and Skittles. Teams will be picked to compete inter area later in the Spring and from them a team will be chosen to represent County Kildare in an All Ireland ‘Go For Life’ Competition later in the year. Turn up at 6.45 next Wednesday, you could win an All Ireland medal in a Kildare jersey yet. It’s worth the effort and good for your health. The ‘Go for Life’ Project is organised by The Kildare Sports Partnership and Engage Kildare who represent the voice of over 50 in the campaign to make County Kildare a better place in which to grow older. And we are all growing older !
CARDS IN MOONE HALL
Progressive 25 Cards are on every Tuesday at 9.00 p.m. in Moone Hall. They are in aid of Parish and Hall Funds so by enjoying the cards you are also keeping the Hall open and the Parish going. There is a cup of tea and a chat at the interval. Sociable too.
BOWLING IN MOONE
Baltinglass have issued a challenge to the recently formed South Kildare Bowling Club that meets on Tuesdays in Moone Hall. Battle will begin about 3 o’clock. I’m not sure of the names of the contestants yet . Come early you could be a teamster or an observer but either way it should be an interesting afternoon. Moone are hoping to win but are still looking for star players so come and see if you might be that talented soul. Bowling is organised by South Kildare Active Retired association in the capable hands of Kathleen Brown. She runs the cards too, what would we do without her !
Feature of this month’s South Kildare Active Retired association monthly meeting in Moone Hall will be a Demonstration on using a Defibrillator in an emergency. It will be given by Rob O’Brien and his crew of Paramedics. They will have child and adult models to show exactly how to use the equipment and other revival techniques. Defibrillators are essential in Heart emergencies. There is a defibrillator on the wall outside the Post Office in Moone but noone I have asked knows what to do with it. Perhaps we will find out on Thursday. South Kildare Active retired meets on the last Thursday of the month in Moone Hall at 8.00 o’clock. There are outings regularly organised, an event or demonstration, and time for a chat and a cup of Tea or Coffee (or just Hot water for a few who like it that way).
It’s the only thing that hasn’t gone up since the Budget, €15 to cover insurance (for all activities, including joint activities with other branches) and running expenses for the year and €3 or €4 for refreshment on the nights you can make it. South Kildare often joins with Baltinglass and Castledermot to organise joint excursions and events. These are all covered if you are a member of Active Retired.”
