Local notes - MOONE TIMOLIN



Local man Barry Anderson will be running a half marathon on Saturday February 16 in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital for sick children in Crumlin. Sponsorship cards in Tom Wall’s shop, Moone, Paddy O’Briens, Timolin and Clynch’s, High Cross, Moone. Your support would be very much appreciated for this great cause.


South Kildare Active retired meets on the last Thursday of the month in Moone Hall at 8pm. There are outings regularly organised, At the monthly meetings there is an event or a demonstration, and time for a chat and a cup of Tea or Coffee (or just Hot water for a few who like it that way). Membership is open to anyone over 55 from all over South Kildare that is from Kilcullen to Moone and beyond and anywhere in between. Join now and get best value for your 2013 fee. It’s the only thing that hasn’t gone up since the Budget, €15 to cover insurance ( for all activities, including joint activities with other branches) and running expenses for the year and €3 for refreshment on the nights you can make it. South Kildare often joins with Baltinglass and Castledermot to organise joint excursions and events. These are all covered if you are a member of Active Retired.”


The change to Wednesdays in Moone Hall for Go For Life Training for the South Kildare area has been a success and has already attracted new members to this ‘gentle’ exercise and sport”. Assemble at 6.45pm for start promptly at 7pm. The games are aimed at providing light exercise for those over 50. You could describe them as variations of Bowls and Skittles. Teams will be picked to compete inter area later in the Spring and from them a team will be chosen to represent County Kildare in an All Ireland ‘Go For Life’ Competition later in the year.


Progressive 25 Cards are on every Tuesday at 9pm. in Moone Hall. They are in aid of Parish and H all Funds so by enjoying the cards you are also keeping the Hall open and the Parish going. There is a cup of tea and a chat at the interval. Sociable too.


The Baltinglass challenge to the recently formed South Kildare Bowling Club had to be postponed to this Tuesday in Moone Hall. Battle will begin about 3pm. Bowling is on every Tuesday from 3 to 5 o’clock in Moone Hall. Bowling is organised by South Kildare Active Retired association in the capable hands of Kathleen Brown. She runs the cards too!


The Ireland Reaching Out meeting for the Narraghmore Parish and surrounding areas will be held in Molly O’Looneys Narraghmore on Thursday 7 February at 8pm, everyone welcome. If you have any old photos, old school photos, old news stories from the Narraghmore Parish or surrounding areas please bring them along so as to promote the area on the Ireland Reaching Out website.


Moone Parish Pilgrimage in 2013 will take place on June 27 to July 4 staying for seven nights at the Santo Amaro Hotel. Spiritual Director is Rev.Fr. Frank McEvoy PP. For further information contact the Parish Office 059 8623154.

A coaching workshop on Saturday 16 February in the club house at 10:15am to 12:00pm. This is free of charge and open to all mentors and any parents or people interested in getting involved in coaching any of our underage teams or anyone who wants to help with any of the teams.
