The death took place on Saturday November 10 in Baltinglass Hospital of Margaret (Una) McGuire West Park Blessington and formerly of Lisheen Road Manor Kilbride. Her remains were removed to St. Brigids Church Manor Kilbride for requiem mass on Tuesday November 13 and her funeral took place immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

There was a large attendance at her funeral which was very fitting for a lovely lady who was well known and much loved in the Blessington and surrounding area.

Blessington Men’s Shed is now open at Troopersfield Monday – Friday.

All men over eighteen years of age are most welcome to come along and find out what is happening.

So far there has been a steady flow of men wanting to join up.

The local organisers are hoping that a lot more will come on board in the coming weeks which would lead to the shed being open for a full day instead of the present afternoon/evening time.

The sudden death took place recently of Bobby Burns Rathmore. Bobby came originally from Granard Co. Longford and had been living at Rathmore for a number of years. In his younger days he was an outstanding footballer and played a star roll on the great Longford team in the sixty’s that won both the National League Title and the Leinster Championship. I was in Croke Park on both occasions.

He was also Manager of the Blessington Senior Team that reached the 1985 County Final and were unlucky losers to Baltinglass.

His remains were removed to Crosschapel Church and after requiem mass he was buried in Burgage Cemetery.

There was a large attendance which was very fitting for Bobby who was much loved in the Blessington and surrounding area and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Here is a message from the organisers of Blessington Car Boot Sale. Blessington Car Boot Sale regret that they will not be holding a Sale on Sunday December 9 as large-scale ground-works are due to take place at St. Kevin’s Community Centre which will result in the removal of the grass area and replacement with a level and drained hard surface.

This work which should be completed by the date of our next Sale on Sunday February 10 next year will provide for a much larger and better outdoor area for both Sellers and Buyers.

So until next February we would like to thank all who supported us during the past year and we wish everyone good health and happiness until we meet again.
