Late Jim Usher, Derries
There was an air of sadness in Edenderry when the people learned of the death of well-known figure Jim Usher. Jim passed away after a short illness at the Regional Hospital, Tullamore on Sunday, 3rd February. Jim worked for almost forty years for the McGreal family in their jewellery and furniture stores on J.K.L. Street.
He was a great character and had a word for everyone. Each morning, Jim could be seen opening the business and putting shop items out on display, well before normal opening time.
He was a great Offaly supporter and travelled to many matches. He loved to recall the Offaly teams of the 1960’s and early 70’s and could name all the players and their positions on the field.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him especially his neighbours in the Derries. Jim was predeceased by his father Peter, mother Bess, brother Tom, sisters, Mag, Betty, Nuala and Pauline.
Deepest sympathy is extended to his sister Mary (England), nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and a large circle of friends. Jim’s funeral Mass took place at St. Mary’s Church on Tuesday, 5th February followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery. May He Rest In Peace.
