Clubs and Organisations in Carbury are reminded that ‘The Gathering’ takes place next year, and we are all encouraged to get involved and organise events to welcome home our emigrants. Events will be taking place countrywide in every town and village throughout the country.

Kildare County Council has a special fund available to help off-set the outlay for staging these events. Funding from €500 - €2,500 is available for suitable events. Check out the website The closing date for applications is this Friday, 30 November at 5pm.

Carbury Day Care Centre Closed Down

The Carbury Day Care Centre is to close after 30 years operating at Carbury Village. This was the shock news relayed to the Day Care Groups on Thursday last by a spokeswoman from the HSE, Naas. She sent shock waves through the entire building with the sad news that the HSE were closing the facilities at the Day Care Centre. The Day Care Groups will now have to re-locate to alternative accommodation against their wishes.

Local Councillor Seamus Langan said it was a sad day for the elderly people of Carbury when they now find themselves with no suitable accommodation in their own parish.

Earlier in the year, it was reported that the HSE were trying to get the Day Care Groups to move to Ofalia House in Edenderry. This arrangement was turned down and the Carbury Groups continued to use the existing building until Thursday last. The HSE buildings were recently purchased by Kildare County Council and it’s unclear of the future use.

The people of Carbury Village have already seen the closing of the Garda Station. The new roadway from Edenderry to Johnstownbridge cuts right through the heart of the village, leaving the residents almost totally isolated.

Last night, Cllr Langan said that he will continue to press the HSE to look after the Carbury Day Care Groups, who are the most vulnerable in our society and deserve better treatment than they are currently getting.
