The current Budget for Council’s Clane Electoral Area in 2012 is currently € €2,890,585.
In 2011, the final spend for the Clane Area Office was € €4,122,695 which was 2.4% over the Allocated Budget.
That’s according to a report from Kildare County Council’s officials issued to councillors from that electoral area at this month’s meeting of the committee last Tuesday, September 11.
And they added that “in general there will be no funding for new works, winter maintenance will be reduced and General Maintenance will be severely reduced”.
The information was response to a query from local Cllr. Padriag McEvoy.
The funding reduction is as a result of the household charge fallout, which prompted Cllr. McEvoy to recall that when he lived in the UK he had a better sense that local property tax he paid was going towards local works.
He said he would have preferred “if every euro that was paid (in the household charge) in the Clane Electoral area stayed in the Clane Electoral area.
“And therefore if you’re not happy with your councillors then you had a chance to vote them out and get other councillors.”
