The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald took time out of her busy schedule last Monday, April 30 to drop into her old school, the Holy Family in Newbridge writes Paula Campbell.
Minister Fitzgerald was both delighted and quite emotional to meet with Sr Catherine and Sr Begenus who taught her in the primary school and secondary school next door.
Minister Fitzgerald had afternoon tea with the sisters and also met with the senior prefects from the Holy Family Secondary School. Minister Fitzgerald gave an address to the fifth and sixth year students on the importance of good education for all women. She outlined how she became involved in politics and the importance of having more women representatives in politics. She encouraged students to become involved in their local community and politics when they finish their education and she also paid tribute to the education she received from the Holy Family and their contribution to education in Newbridge.
