Athy commuters to Dublin could soon have the option of a new 6am train service.

The need for the early morning train was raised at this month’s area meeting which was held yesterday, April 15, 2019 in Castledermot.

Cllr Brian Dooley tabled a motion that the council ask the National Transport Authority to survey Irish Rail customers on the benefits and importance of an earlier 6am morning train servicing Heuston Station in Dublin.

“The benefits of this would be phenomenal,” said Cllr Dooley.

“You could be in Dublin at 6.50am- it’s a no brainer.”

Members agreed that this would be useful to commuters and a request will be made on behalf of the councillors to the NTA.
