Kildare woman punched, kicked and pulled clump of hair fined

Athy court house

A young woman who was before Athy District Court on Tuesday, March 26 for assault causing harm after she punched, kicked and pulled a clump of hair off a minor was fined €750 .

Kayleigh Tobin, 21, with an address listed in court documents in Nurney, came to the attention of gardai on May 25, 2018 at 3.02am at Verona takeaway and later at Emily Square in Athy.

The court heard that the defendant gave the injured party, a 17 year-old girl, a number of kicks and punches all over her body in the takeaway and then followed her outside where she took a large clump of hair from her head.

There was no reason given for the assault other than she took 'umbrage' at something the injured party said. The court heard that the injured party was later taken to Portlaoise Hospital. She did not give a victim impact statement but told gardai that her confidence suffered as a result.

The defendant was described in court as being highly intoxicated at the time and remorseful for her actions. She apologised in court. Judge Desmond Zaidan said her behavour was 'thuggish' and fined her €750.
