Athy Retail Skills Presentation Day

The Athy Retail Skills training programme held a celebration day in the Clanard Court Hotel on Friday February, 22, 2019.

The event celebrated the achievements of current and past learners and showcased the certificates they had earned and the various courses completed.

Learners and their families were warmly welcomed by Course Coordinator, Josephine Thackaberry and Horticultural Tutor, Colm O’ Callaghan. Eileen Cullen, Training Services Manager KWETB and Sheila Bradley, Senior Development Officer KWETB - Kildare Wicklow Education Training Board and Pat Leogue General Manager CKLP - County Kildare LEADER Partnership were there to present the learners with their certificates. 

The Athy Retail Skills course is based at the Training Centre on Woodstock Street Athy. The centre has been running Local Training Initiatives since 2002. Over 390 trainees have passed through its doors since the centre opened. It provides training and work experience and help people from the local area prepare for employment. The course leads to a Level 4 Major Award in Retail Skills which has seen graduates go on to work in Salesence (Dublin), Mr Price, Lidl, Cents (Athy) and Holland & Barrett (Newbridge).

The Programme is operated by County Kildare LEADER Partnership (CKLP) under the sponsorship of Kildare Wicklow Education Training Board (KWETB). The facility is provided by Kildare County Council through the Athy Community Enterprise Company.
