Allegations of sexual assault during Athy buskathon

Athy court

The case of a man who was before Athy District Court on allegations of sexual assault during a charity buskathon in Athy was adjourned for the preparation of a book of evidence on Tuesday, February 28, last.

The defendant, who has a Dublin address, came to the attention of gardai on February 9, 2018, at 6.45pm in Emily Square.

The court heard that the injured party was attending a buskathon, with several children. The defendant joined her company and he played with the children. The court heard he was very drunk at the time.

It was then alleged that he tried to kiss the injured party and then put his hands between her legs and touched her genitals.

Judge Desmond Zaidan asked if the children were present at the time of the alleged assault and he was told that they were.

“I am going to refuse jurisdiction,” Judge Zaidan said. He remanded the defendant on continued station bail until July 9 next for the book of evidence.
