Funding secured for Castledermot town renewal plan

Funding has been secured for the provision of a health check assessment and development of a town renewal plan for Castledermot.

The members of the Athy District council heard at this month’s meeting, which took place on Monday, February 18, 2019 that the funds were secured under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2018.

The meeting heard that it is envisaged that the health check will commence in the spring, with projects and priorities identified by the community as part of the scheme in 2020.

An application of funding was submitted under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund 2019 for the redevelopment of Emily Square in Athy and the Shackleton Museum (subject to Part 8 approval). A decision is due on the application and if successful will enable works to commence later on in the year.

Members were also updated on the current health check plan being carried out in Monasterevin. Once the Town Renewal Plan has been completed, projects identified will be submitted for funding.
