Call for Kildare County Council to sort out road speed irregularities

Councillor condemns dangerous erections

Sinn Fein county councillor Thomas Redmond.

A call was made that the council provide a summary of the speed surveys that have been conducted on roads in the Athy municipal district area at this month's meeting which was held on Monday, January 21 last.

Cllr Thomas Redmond asked if this could include what will be done with all speed irregularities on road citing for example the Old Kilcullen road which is 50 km/h while the road running adjacent to it is 80 km/h?

Members were told that there is a speed limit review being carried out at present.

The Draft Speed Limit Review will include a statutory public consultation process which will take place in 2019.

It is anticipated that anomalies on roadways some of which are carried over from the former Athy Town Council with different speed limits will be regularised as part of the Review.
