Gardai in Kildare are investigating after a man was stabbed in Duke street in Athy in the early hours of this morning.
The man was taken to hospital and is said to be in a critical condition.
The area has been cordoned off for technical and CCTV examination. A heavy garda presence is currently monitoring the area.
Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
“We are still trying to find out what happened,” said Sgt Tara Sharpe of Kildare garda station.
“We don’t have any more information on it to give out at this stage. The matter is being investigated.”
