30 members of Defence Forces in the Curragh to assist flood relief


Flood warning in Portarlington as River Barrow levels are high

The Defence Forces are deploying 30 personnel to assist with flood relief works in the Mountmellick area of Laois this morning. 

The troops have begun deploying from the Curragh Camp since 8am this morning.

The troops from the Defence Forces Training Centre deployed following a request from Laois Co Co.

The Defence Forces personnel will bring specialist equipment to assist in flood defence, mobility and clean up taskings.

Yesterday  evening, two housing estates were evacuated by emergency services and more than 100 homes have been significantly damaged by the floods after three rivers burst their banks due to heavy rain..
