NAAS Mayor Darren Scully has come under fire over saying he will refuse to represent members of the black African community.
The Fine Gael member of Naas Town Council and Kildare County council said he based his decision on the aggressive attitude he experienced when representations were made to him by black Aricans.
“I have been met with bad manners and aggressiveness,” he said.
Cllr Scully said he had been met with the race card, meaning that members of the African community complained that he would help white people but not them.
He said afterwards he would reflect on his views and take on board the reaction to what he said.
Although many people have said they oppose his views many others have expressed support for him.
The Fine Gael party has since distanced itself from the comments and that his views do not represent the party.
