Cllr David Trost (FF) has called for the sequencing of lights on Aghards Road/Shackleton Road, Celbridge
The council should adjust the sequencing of lights on Aghards Road/Shackleton Road, Celbridge, Co Kildare “as a priority” during current roadworks on the Maynooth Road, a Fianna Fáil councillor has motioned.
Cllr David Trost stated at a recent Celbridge Leixlip MD meeting that traffic flows have been severely impacted due to diversions in the area, causing talk backs at peak periods.
At certain times of the day and also at weekends, there appeared to be a problem with traffic flow due to diversions in the area, he added.
He said there is a lot of “back-up” at the traffic lights, which is causing people “anger and frustration.”
Anything that could be done to alleviate the situation would be “most welcome.”
Cathaoirleach Cllr Rupert Heather (LAB), said that people living in some estates “cannot get out of their estates.”
There needed to be ongoing work, he said, to ensure that the sequencing of traffic lights is routinely updated.
“How do you do a job, and do it properly without some interference?”, Cllr Bernard Caldwell (FF) interjected.
People should simply “get on with it”, as important work was being carried out by Uisce Éireann, he said.
Cllr Heather said that while he agreed with Cllr Caldwell, it should be possible to carry out work “with some fine-tuning.”
A report by the council stated: “The (MD) office had requested that the Uisce Éireann Project Team continuously monitor the traffic flows and queuing at this junction with the view to minimise the impact of the traffic lights and maximise the flow of traffic.
“The lights are required to facilitate the turning of buses at this junction and to give balanced flows from each approach.”
