'Be very cautious and conscious': Kildare garda issues road safety appeal ahead of Bank Holiday weekend

The garda said that this weekend will be ‘one of the busiest weekends’ on the nation’s roads
A garda based in County Kildare has issued some road safety tips ahead of the coming Bank Holiday weekend.
Garda William Barry made the call to members of the public during a recent guest appearance on KFM.
He explained to host Clem Ryan that this weekend will be ‘one of the busiest weekends [of the year] on the roads’.
“We are asking everyone to be very cautious and conscious on the road,” he added.
Gda Barry also issued some advice for motorists:
- Never hold a mobile phone, or anything else, which may distract them while driving
- Keep an eye out on the speed of the vehicle
- Stay within the speed limits
- Match speed with the current weather conditions
- Always wear a seatbelt
- Exercise patience on the journey
- Plan the journey in advance
- Be conscious of other road users, especially as it is ‘still agriculture season’
- Never drive under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs
Gda Barry also said that there will be an increased number of garda checkpoints on the roads in order to enforce road traffic legislation.
He concluded: “Please, everyone, be careful on the roads, and have a safe and happy Bank Holiday weekend.”
