The message is aimed both at motorists and parents

As children return to school this month, An Garda Síochána Kildare is asking all road users to take extra care during the school run.

Drivers:

- Slow down and stay alert around schools.

- Follow the directions of school wardens at all times.

- Watch carefully for children crossing the road.

- Give cyclists and pedestrians plenty of space.

- Do not double park or stop where parking is prohibited.

Parents:

- Plan safe drop-off and collection points.

- Never park illegally or in a way that puts children or other road users at risk.

- Talk to your children about safe road behaviour.

A garda spokesperson said: “A few extra seconds of care can make all the difference.

Let's work together to keep our children safe on their journey t o and from school.

“Slow down. Stay alert. Our children matter.”
