An Garda Siochána Kildare bank holiday clampdown

Gardai will be targeting a range of offences across Co Kildare
An Garda Síochána Kildare are to hold a major Road Safety Operation this June bank holiday weekend.
The operation will run from Thursday, May 28 2026 until Tuesday, June 2 2026, with enforcement activity significantly increased across County Kildare.
Kildare gardai have stated that their objective is to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.
This will be accomplished through sustained, highly visible and proactive enforcement targeting “Lifesaver Offences”, gardai have stated.
Gardai will be focusing on:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Speeding
- Mobile phone use while driving
- Seatbelt offences
- Dangerous and careless driving
A garda spokesperson said of the initiative: “This operation will target the times and locations where the risk of serious collisions is highest. One bad decision can destroy lives forever.
“If you choose to drink or take drugs and drive, speed, or use your phone behind the wheel, expect to be stopped.
“Every fatal collision leaves families shattered, communities devastated and emergency services dealing with scenes no one should ever witness.
“Slow down. Put the phone away. Never drive under the influence. Make sure everyone gets home safely this Bank Holiday weekend.”
