The title was previously held by a Scotch whisky

A bottle of Irish whiskey aged 30 years was sold for a record $2.8 million to a collector.

The rarest triple-distilled single malt in existence, The Emerald Isle, has been sold to prolific American collector Mike Daley - becoming the most expensive bottle of whiskey ever sold.

Previously, the most sought-after bottle would have been a Scotch whisky. In November 2023, a bottle of The Macallan sold for $2.7 million.

Mike Daley, who has a collection of several thousand bottles of whiskey said: "Irish is the future of whiskey. I'm excited to be part of it, as a collector, but most importantly as a drinker.”
