Traders in Naas have joined forces with Kildare County Council on a new Christmas lighting system which was unveiled on Saturday.

Clane solicitor and Naas native Rioghnagh Bracken along with Caitroina Byrne (chairperson), Catherine Whelan, Kim Kelleher, Cllr Anne Breen and Carol Walsh have worked with Naas Mayor Fintan Brett, Cllr Seamie Moore and Cllr Deborah to come up with a new €70,000 lighting system which will be unveiled over a three year period.

“There were over 1,500 people there on Saturday and the queue for Santa stretched from the Town Hall to past the Post office,” said Ms Bracken.

She said the lighting will be upgraded again to embrace cross street features and lighting on Friary Road.

“The traders responded well to the fundraising efforts we made. The whole idea is to get as many people to come into Naas over the Christmas period and we want to thank everyone who helped,” added Ms Bracken.
