Decision soon on changes to fire-damaged golf club in Kildare

The original building was destroyed in an accidental fire on May 14, 2024
A new golf simulator facility and pro shop could soon be built at Craddockstown Golf Club in Kildare after plans were submitted to replace a building destroyed by fire two years ago.
The private development, with an estimated value of almost €228,000, has been lodged with Kildare County Council for the club on the Blessington Road in Naas.
A decision on the application is expected in late July.
The proposal seeks permission to demolish the remains of the former two-storey pro shop, which measured 287 square metres and suffered extensive damage in a fire in May 2024.
In its place, the club plans to construct a new single-storey modular building with a floor area of 105 square metres.
The replacement building will house a new pro shop along with a dedicated golf simulator facility. The plans also include associated site works together with new hard and soft landscaping.
The original building was destroyed in an accidental fire on May 14, 2024. The blaze is believed to have started because of an electrical fault at the golf buggy charging area beside the pro shop.
Fire crews from Naas, Blessington and Newbridge attended the incident and brought the fire under control in less than 90 minutes. No injuries were reported, although the building was extensively damaged.
Planning documents submitted with the application include proposals for sustainable drainage measures to manage surface water at the site. These include permeable paving around the new building and a soakaway system to reduce runoff.
The golf club is located on grounds containing several ponds, while the Castlesize Stream runs close to the property, making drainage an important consideration in the design.
The application, prepared by Naas-based McLoughlin Architecture, was submitted to Kildare County Council in June and a planning decision is due by the end of July.
