THE chronic lack of public facilities in Sallins is to be highlighted at a protest to be staged in a Naas playground this weekend.

“Sallins is a large vibrant town and it has a population of over 5,000 people with at least 1,000 children under 15 years old, yet we have no playground,” said Tony Gavin, secretary of the local community council.

For the last ten years Kildare County Council has been petitioned to provide a playground for the area. But despite numerous meetings with the council, little has been done.

On Sunday March 3 at 3pm the people and children of Sallins will occupy the playground in Monread “in a community demonstration to

demand action.”

“We would like to invite local politicians and the to attend and support us in our attempt persuade the council to provide this basic facility which would make such a difference to our children’s lives,“ added Mr. Gavin.
