A household in a Maynooth housing estate became the first domestic home in Ireland to get one of the Irish Water’s new meters.
Irish Water, which was scheduled to start installing meters elsewhere in Maynooth on 12 August took the media to 9 Rockfield Grove just after 12.30pm yesterday, August 8.
GMC/Sierra, the contractors, who will be installing the metres in this region, had been in the estate on August 7 to prepare the hole, into which a boundary box was installed.
Noel Shannon, Regional Communications manager, Irish Water, said that experience elsewhere showed that water usage may drop by 15% after we start paying for each cubic litre. Houses not metered then will be “assessed”, on what basis, the company could not say yet.
