A five-a-side astro tournament is being organised to honour the memory of Abbey Adefabi, the teenager who lost his life in a tragic drowning accident in Celbridge last month.
The Abbey Adefabi Cupis being organised by Martin Goggins and details can be obtained from Ballyoulster A.F.C.
On Saturday, July 27 last, a penalty shootout decided the Celbridge Community Summer Cup 2013 Final between Shacktar Senseless and ABCDE FC, Abbey’s former team, in Ballyoulster A.F.C.
After a rain soaked delay, Senseless led 3-1 at half time with three goals from John Costello, with Dylan Kavanagh netting ABCDE’s.
Seadna McGrillen made it 3-2 with 30 mins to play and Kavanagh equalised. With the sides level at 3-3 after extra time, Senseless won on penalities.
Mark Crickely, manager of ABCDE FC, said his side showed tremendous character.
“We really couldn’t have done more. We paid a fitting tribute to our close friend, Abbey.”
Organisers Gerard Dunleavy and Kenneth Kinsella thanked everyone for their support.
The number 7 jersey, which Abbey Adefabi would have worn in the final was signed and framed along with a Ballyoulster jersey of his. The pair of framed jerseys are on display on the wall in the Ballyoulster A.F.C. clubhouse.
Leinster Leader photographer Tony Keane was on hand to capture the action of the Community Summer Cup Final.
