The engines revved, the rain poured and a host of colourful cars and characters gathered at the Mondello track for the launch of the 2013 Cannonball Run on Friday morning.
Even Elvis and his missus were spotted at the track to watch the Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Aston Martins, Mini Coopers, and Porches whizz by.
One lucky spectator, Conor O’Donoghue from Carbury, was also celebrating his sixth birthday with his dad Martin and younger brother Rory.
“I am a big fan,” said Martin. “I have been to the Grand Prix’s and it’s great being here for Conor’s big day.”
150 cool cars in total lined up for the official start-line of the largest organised road trip in Europe.
The Cannonball Run’s aim was to raise money for Laura Lynn, which supports children with life limiting conditions and their families.
Spectators rubbed shoulders with NYPD officers including Officer Flash, the cast of The Simpsons, American Presidents, RTE host Ryan Tubridy and Superman.
“We love motorsports,” said Andy Dunne, from Prosperous. “But it’s wet, wet, wet today.”
