There has been a change of venue for this Saturday’s local derby clash of Newbridge and Cill dara in the Leinster League Div 1A.

Originally scheduled to be held at Newbridge College, the game will now be held at Newbridge RFC’s home ground of Rosetown.

The first team clash kicks off at 2.30pm, in a replay of the Hosie cup final fixture which was played at Beechpark on December 30, with Newbridge emerging as victors.

Saturday’s match sees both sides contesting for the Jon Conlan Memorial Trophy.

Jon Conlan, a young Cill Dara member, tragically lost his battle with testicular cancer over three years ago.

His grandfather Sean was a founding member of the Kildare town side and his uncle Peter is involved with the club.

The former Newbridge College student was also friends with several members of the Newbridge RFC side.

The trophy is awarded to the team with the highest aggregate score after their two Leinster League matches. Newbridge won the first round of this year’s encounter 23-15.

The clubs’ seconds teams will also play on the day, with that match starting at 1pm.
