An injury time try by Adam Hughes, giving the Kildare side a crucial bonus point winning try, could make a difference in this exciting climax to the Ulster League Division 2B battle, writes Henry Bauress.

NUIM Barnhall: 27

Sligo: 0

With one game to play, NUIM Barnhall are in third place, two points ahead of Rainey Old Boys. A win in their final game, away to mid table Connemeara, will assure them of third place and a play off for promotion to the next division.

There is an outside chance of second automatic promotion place.

But despite a great win against second placed Banbridge the weekend before last and a very narrow defeat to undefeated league leaders Cashel before that, Barnhall made hard work of this win against Sligo.

The western side defended well but despite being only three points down to a penalty from their former player, NUIM Barnhall outhalf, Simon Gillespie, at half time, they showed few signs of scoring themselves.

The home side were not as sharp as they could have been but in the 57 minute, No. 6, Tom McKeown, got an unconverted touchdown in the right corner, to leave it 8-0.

Eleven minutes latter, captain and No.8, Barry Dunne, got a second try in similar position and in the 78 minute, scrum half, Rob Holt, got the third try, again unconverted.

The game was in the fifth minute of injury time when winger, Adam Hughes, forced himself over again, following good work by Barry Dunne, giving NUIM Barnhall a bonus point.
