Murtagh contract terminated

The Aga Khan and jockey Johnny Murtagh have parted company following the decision by the owner/breeder to terminate the contract with immediate effect.

Johnny Murtagh (42) has said that “I was informed yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) that my contract to ride for his Highness, the Aga Khan was terminated with immediate effect.”

Pat Downes, the Aga Khan’s stud farm manager in Ireland said: “There were differences between the parties and it was agreed to end the association with immediate effect.”
