Hurlers defeat Kerry after cracking second half

Kildare hurlers put in a tremendous second half performance to defeat holders Kerry in the second round of the Christy Ring Cup, at St. Conleth’s Park, Newbrige, this afternoon (Saturdy 12 May), writes TOMMY CALLALGHAN.
Behind at the interval by a single point (!-9 to 0-11) Kildare, despite going three points behind early on the resumption, put in one of the best performances we have seen under manager Willie Sunderland to win on a score line of Kildare 2-21 kERRY 1-16.
Some tremendous displays especially from Martin Fitzgerald, Martin Moloney and Paul Divilly, Kildare now play Meath next Saturday, venue to be decided by draw (home or away).
Scorers: Kildare Martin Moloney 2-3, Martin Fitzgerald 0-6, Paul Divilly 0-5 (3 frees), Conor Kenny 0-2, David Harney, Danny Butler, Johnny Enright 0-1 (free), Tony Murphy 0-1 and Gerry Keegan 0-1 each.
Kerry: Shane Brick 1-8 (penalty, 7 frees), Willie O’Dwyer 0-4, Michael Boyle 0-2, Darragh O’Connell 0-1 (free), Darren Dineen 0-1.
