THE long running Seanie Johnston transfer saga looks to be finally reaching a conclusion with a date having now been fixed for his appeal which will take place in Croke Park, on Monday 23 April, writes TOMMY CALLAGHAN.
Having gone through the process and the various appeals which were all turned down, the Cavan Gaels man decided to make one last ditch effort to transfer to St. Kevin’s in Kildare and ultimately to line out for Kieran McGeeney’s Kildare side.
Johnston, who has been living in Straffan for a few months at this stage has been training with the Kildare junior squad and with St. Kevin’s, He is hopeful that, having submitted all the relevant documents, including tenancy agreement for his house along with utility bills, even supplying toll charge receipts to prove he is living in Straffan and commuting to his work in Cavan.
Despite rumours to the contrary Johnston is not part of the Kildare panel that travelled out to Portugal today Friday (13 April) for a week’s warm weather training. The Kildare squad will return on Sunday 22 April, with their AFL Division 2 final on a week later.
