KILDARE selector Niall Carew has insisted it is not the job of his players or senior management to fundraise for the County Board despite current financial difficulties, writes Ruth O’Brien

However, the St Kevin’s man says that the footballers will bring in more money next year due to the fact they are back in Division 1.

“We are here for football and to play football not to raise money for the county board directly. Now that we are back in Division 1 I’m sure the County Board can piggy back on us what with higher revenue,” insisted Carew.

Speaking about remarks made about the footballers training camp in Portugal, Carew says other teams should not be jealous and if they fundraised as much as the his players did then every team could to do it.

“It’s been said that Kildare are the envy of every other county because they were out training in the sun. If that’s the case why don’t other teams do something about it? If other teams fundraised like our players do then the would have the same,” remarked Carew.
